Coca-Cola Amatil’s vending machines will now accept crypto payments in Australia and New Zeland.
In short:
Crypto payments in vending machines
The plans entered into force on June 8th after the partnership of the Centrapay digital asset platform with Coca-Cola Amatil, thanks to which vending machines will be able to accept hidden payments.
A network of more than 2,000 Coca-Cola Amatil vending machines in Australia and New Zealand have allowed consumers to spend cryptocurrencies via QR code scans on a smartphone, provided by Sylo smart wallet, which is a decentralized application that integrates messaging services into the digital wallet, supporting digital content such as Bitcoin and any ERC-20 tokens.
Impact of the pandemic on the decision
After the COVID-19 took over the world, the argument of introducing cashless vending machines becomes quite good. Jerome Faury, CEO of Centrapay, pointed out the need to reduce physical contact in commercial locations due to coronavirus pandemic.
Coca-Cola Amatil’s agreement was presented as a first step to provide consumers with easier and safer access to their products through cryptography.
“We have shown how well such a system can work in Australia and New Zealand, and now we want to expand our business worldwide. We are planning to target advertising to the American market.
Centrapay is now focusing its attention on removing barriers in the new adoption of technology so that users have a better crypto experience. Transparency and simplicity are now the most important determinant for them to decide whether people will accept payments with the new technology globally.
Coca-Cola enters the crypto market
This is not the first time that Coca-Cola’s partners have become interested in blockchain technology. With Centrapay and Coca-Cola Amatil focusing on consumers by introducing slot machines to make cryptic payments, other Coca-Cola partners have adopted the blockchain technology on the supply chain side.
In November 2019, Coke One North America, a technology company managing IT operations for the soda drinks giant, began using blockchain solutions for the supply chain management.
The giant Coca-Cola puts blockchain and cryptic technology in a very good light, which will certainly improve the reputation of the industry. Many people still treat them as mysterious or uncertain, so the adaptation of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency by large companies is a very important step for the industry to be able to glide and master the world faster and faster.
